Honoring our Own

This week, students continued to learn about both veterans and people still active in the military. Our own classmate, Skyler, currently has a dad who is deployed. He and his mother, Kaulana, generously offered to talk with us about their experience. Students quickly related to how things are different when one of their parents is away overnight or for a few days. It helped them to understand what the families of deployed soldiers cope with for longer periods of time.  The second grade made some beautiful thank you notes to mail to Technical Sergeant Carrell!

Veteran's Day Math

To learn about Veteran's Day, we read a book called, "What Is Veteran's Day." In math, students made a die with various symbols of the United States and practiced tallying and graphing their rolling results.

Pics from November

Students were busy with fall activities in late October and November, Mr. mussel an from the Burlington Science Center came in and presented Pumpkin Science. Small scientists made predictions on whether a pumpkin would float or sink. See for yourself the results. It ended with a big surprise caused by a chemical reaction!

Vocabulary Parade on Wednesday, November 23!

This Wednesday morning, Fox Hill students will have a fun opportunity to expand their vocabulary. Students can choose a word that interests them and dress in a way that portrays that word. We ask that children try to choose a word that is a tiny stretch for them. No need to go out and purchase a costume... Just be creative with what you can find at home! As always, participation is optional but encouraged.
