I'm Our class reward today was to play in the snow today. It was the perfect day to get outside!

Spotlight Week is Under Way!

We are in our section no week of Student Spotlight. Last week was kicked off Mr. Neidermeier coming in to read "The Day The Crayons Quit." This week, Mr. Carrell iced us and taught the kids how to build their own catapult!

The Completed Island

Here are the completed islands? These will be the source of inspiration for our first persuasive writing piece later this month!

Their Own Private Island

As part of learning about landforms! Students designed and built their own island complete with at least five different landforms. As you can see, they were very proud of them!

Honoring our Own

This week, students continued to learn about both veterans and people still active in the military. Our own classmate, Skyler, currently has a dad who is deployed. He and his mother, Kaulana, generously offered to talk with us about their experience. Students quickly related to how things are different when one of their parents is away overnight or for a few days. It helped them to understand what the families of deployed soldiers cope with for longer periods of time.  The second grade made some beautiful thank you notes to mail to Technical Sergeant Carrell!

Veteran's Day Math

To learn about Veteran's Day, we read a book called, "What Is Veteran's Day." In math, students made a die with various symbols of the United States and practiced tallying and graphing their rolling results.
